The first part of Arte prattica & poëtica is a translation of Arte pratica latina et volgare di far contrappunto à mente, & à penna, published in Venice (1610), written by Giovanni Battista Chiodino (fl.1610), and the 15 rules of thoroughbass realization came from an unpublished Latin treatise written by Wolfgang Ebner (1612-1665).
