Issued by S.M. Berg from 1916 to 1918 the seventy works published in this series were intended for use as accompaniment for silent movies. Typically, they were scored for an orchestra consisting of the following: flute, oboe, 2 clarinets, bassoon, 2 horns, 2 cornets, trombone, timpani, percussion, piano, and strings. Through the use of cross cueing the works could also be performed by a reduced-sized orchestra typically consisting of the following: flute, clarinet, 2 cornets, trombone, timpani, percussion, piano, and strings. The parts used for both sizes of orchestra were identical. Also, the piano parts were written so that they could serve as a solo piano arrangement. Most, if not all, of the piano scores were re-issued in Belwin's PianOrgan Film Books of Incidental Music in the 1920s.
