Extra Information | Published anonymously. Authorship determined from Samuel Pegge manuscripts held by the British Museum (photocopies at UCLA); see also RISM 806047083 The speech songs are single-chord curiosities. The mention of Maria Jenkins (here named Mary), hanged at Tyburn for murdering her newborn child, fixes the earliest possible date to September 1765. A Bloody Murder and The Last Dying Speech and Confession were also printed together as one piece in Warren's Collection, No.13 (1774-75), p.18 |
