The piece is devided into different parts with different instrument groups having the molody in each of them, starting with brass, then wood winds twice, followed by specifically French Horn I and Trumpet I and closing with a big tutti; the second wood wind part was originally supposed to be a strings part, but the composer deemed it to be not fitting and decided to give it to the wood winds again, the strings got a second ostinato whick appears in this part only instead; the first ostinato carries through the whole piece in some form and in differen sections, it is only ever varied in the second wood wind part when the time signature changes; each new part opens slowly with the ostinato alone.
