The instrumental partbooks seem to reflect two different versions of the work. The first three (?) [BNF says four] parts, as well as the last one, represent a smaller version, and the remaining parts represent a larger version. Charpentier's autograph [Mélanges autographes, Vol. 27], however, has only four instrumental parts.
