| Extra Information
|
Prokofiev started to compose this piece in 1912 and finished it in 1913, premiering the work on the same year. However, during the Russian Revolution the score was destroyed. He reconstructed the score from the sketches in 1923 and re-premiered the work in 1924 but the new score was so different from the original that, according to Prokofiev, it almost could be considered a new concerto.

Navigation etc.
Some disagreement whether the first version is wholly lost ?..., as manuscript parts were copied for two performances and "Indeed, early in 1996 evidence points to an original version in the Glinka Museum." (from notes to Hyperion Recording of the revised version) -- (ok, nothing seems to have actually come of that by 2017, though. - ES)
