Extra Information Van Domselaer wrote at least two other piano sonatas with the composition year as the subtitle in parentheses. To distinguish between these sonatas, the composition year is added to the title within single quotes. According to a brief review of the NMI archives, 9 piano sonatas were written before 1924 and were numbered. Beginning with the sonata written in 1924 (or possibly this sonata from 1926) and onward, the composer used the year-in-subtitle convention.
