Extra Information The melody first appeared in 1720 as part of the fourth movement (Air mit 5 variationen) of the Suite in E major, HWV 430, by George Frideric Handel. It then appeared as a song with the Marot text in the 1733 collection by François-Augustin Paradis de Moncrif: Choix de chansons de Thibaut de Champagne (Acad. Française) and was arranged for voice and piano by Weckerlin for the 1855 volume. (The link is for the 1757 "Nouvelle édition" held by BNF). The same melody was also included by Clarence Dickinson as Now My Lightsome Youth is Gone in his 1920 collection Troubadour Songs (No.6).
