Misc. Comments

Much has been made in critical literature (and popular program notes) of how the work is not rhapsodic in the usual sense, but the early form of the work, completed in February 1919 before the composer decided later in the month to start serious revisions, may well have been just that. (from articles in "The Music of Herbert Howells", 2013.)
