Navigation etc.

Chandos CD booklet contains information about symphonies 2 and 3, the manuscript titles for movements of symphony 2. (These also appear on page 3 of the 4-hand reduction from Forberg). The CD booklet gives a composition date of 1875; while Reinecke site gives publication date of 1874 for the 2-piano version. The CD booklet is a source for information about 1888 revision. Not a program symphony, however (notes the composer).

  • Recorded on Chandos 9893 (recorded 1999, released 2001 - Howard Shelley conducting the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra in Reinecke symphonies 2 and 3).

Instrumentation from the record at the Free Library of Philadelphia.

As noted by Schlüren there was also (prior to the A major symphony) a 1850 G major symphony by Reinecke which received several performances but which he disavowed and which has been lost.

There is also a Reinecke “Hakon Jarl” for soloists chorus and large orchestra published somewhat later which may not be musically a related work?
