This is based on a nursery-rhyme, not Louis Carroll, so the notion (that I had) that Alice Grey was entirely pseudonymous and an obvious nod to the background of the play is dashed. Perhaps a sister of Katherine Grey's (who I am guessing without any certainty was the well-known actress of the time.)
