Presumably by having copies purchased of the parts a somewhat larger ensemble would have been possible and tolerated (or perhaps also, as usual, different-proportioned, with a few more strings but still only one flute, etc. Probably not meant for performance by 12/12/10/10/8 strings, however...) Clarinets here called "clarionet".

Timpani muted ("muffled drum") throughout.

Composition date of 1885 based on the occasion for which it was written and assumes this is not an earlier unpublished piece given a new name, for instance!

Oddly, clarinet part entitled 1st clarinet though there is no reason to believe a 2nd clarinet part exists. Maybe to be played by the 1st clarinet section?
