Misc. Comments

  • The contents listing of the Odhecaton gives the parts as 3/4. There are only 3 lines in the edition, but the top line has been interpreted as being in canon?
  • Grove Music lists 4 parts but does not say which are vocal or instrumental. In its article, it says "The question arises as to how many of these early pieces were conceived to be sung at all and how many were from the start instrumental. Certainly Petrucci and most of the manuscript sources omit the words, so that the practice of purely instrumental performance must have been widespread." Tagged for vocal and instrumental.
