Copyright Information *The 1965 claim on the full score - from which the violin and piano arrangement was made - does not qualify for a separate publication, since the initial 1925 publication encompassed all extant versions. The omission of the 1925 claim on the 1965 score and parts may have invalidated the US copyright. As Weill became a US citizen in 1943, the work is likely ineligible for "restoration" under GATT/TRIPS.

The claim that the 1925 copyright claim (I assume this, not "publication", is meant?) encompassed all extant versions may have been more hope than reality. At least according to Universal Edition, all they actually were -able- to produce in 1925 was the violin/piano reduction, and that the full score was not published until 1965. (See link, which contains a browsable 2010 critical edition: "In December 1925 Universal Edition had published Weill’s piano reduction as UE 8339 (with a separate violin part inserted), but four decades elapsed before the full score appeared in print. This posthumous publication disregarded Weill’s original score layout, conceived especially for his unusual forces: the solo instrument appeared in the top staff, the trumpet above the horns, and the bassoons as the lowest winds beneath the horns (similar to the score layout for a woodwind quintet). The full score published in 1965, however, conformed the score to a more conventional format, even though Weill’s forces are conventional neither in number nor in function.") It may still be true that their copyright claim would supercede what they actually did publish, but does the law actually specify? - ES (note that this does tend to establish that the 1965 score is -not- the one from which the 1925 reduction was made.)
