1908 revision
- For many years, beginning in 1896, the opera was performed exclusively in a re-orchestrated revision by Rimsky-Korsakov (he himself conducted the première, with Fyodor Stravinsky as Varlaam), which itself exists in two versions (published in 1896 and 1908) of which the more complete second ('standard version')... is the one that first achieved international repertory status.
