First movement composed in Vienna, Autumn/Winter 1870, remainder composed in Baden-Baden in Summer of 1871. *The first movement (only) was performed in Bremen at the Cathedral on April 7, 1871 with Brahms conducting. Brahms arranged the work for piano 4 hands in 1873.
