The date of first publication remains unclear so far. The title attributed to this work and to the other volumes of the "Orgelmagazin" follows the new edition by Ekkehard Koch; Kern himself simply named these works "Orgelmagazin: Vor- und Nachspiele für die Orgel" and added the number of the volume.
