Extra Information

Book 1 is probably a re-engraving of a book of arrangements with the same title published by Heinze: see the cover of Hummel's Romance They are possibly the work of Sarah Magnus Heinze (1836-1901) a Swedish pianist, composer and arranger (and wife of publisher Gustav Heinze). She published many Bach piano arrangements, including a set of Bach solo vl and vc suite extracts in 1869 (HMB 1869 p205) and especially Beliebte Stücke which remained in print (Peters) until the 1950s. The Heinze collection appeared complete in 1872 (HMB 1872 p.69) and the Peters collection Vol. I was published two years later. (HMB 1874 p188) Vol 1 was published with "edited by ***" on the title page, example whereas the other vols read "edited by Friedrich Hermann" example
