The only occasional mention to be found of this variety singer cum song writer on BnF is in 1879 and 1880 and is purely anecdotal. That being said, this variation of the 'merry widow' theme is quite amusing if conventional. Lebassi is said to have had great imitative gifts and enjoyed a certain popularity since a benefit performance was arranged for him in 1879 which was not as successful as had been hoped, upon which a complementary performance was immediately arranged by his admirers.
