The Moretla Prelude was written for the Nordbayerisches Spielleuteorchester (NBSO) using a combination of one-keyed flutes, natural trumpets and various pitched and unpitched percussion instruments. As with many of my compositions, though, the instrumentation is considered variable and may be arranged for any suitable ensemble. ‘Moretla’ is the Tswana name for a shrub commonly found in Southern Africa which lends its name to a river and suburb near to where I lived for many years.
