Otto Forberg took over the Leipzig branch of the Hamburg-based Hugo Thiemer in 1887, and the firm was finally bought by Friedrich Hofmeister Musikverlag in Leipzig in 1940.

Otto Forberg's steady output is shown by its HMB entries: 733 items for the period 1888-1898, and 116 in 1893-98. However, this was small compared with the 3000 items of Robert Forberg for 1862-1900. The catalog included lighter items by Gustav Lange and Erik Meyer-Helmund, violin works by Hans Sitt and Gustav Hollaender, and many piano works by Adolf Ruthardt and Arnold Krug.
