Jean-Jacques Eigeldinger's Chopin: Pianist and Teacher: As Seen by His Pupils (1986, English translation) says of the dedicatee (p.239) that she was "Maria Nikolaïevna de Scherbatoff" (died 1892), wife of prince Alexeï Borissovitch Cherkassky (or Tcherkassky). "[Ferdinand] Gajewski's discovery of her collection of dedicated and annotated scores identifies de Scherbatoff as a hitherto unknown pupil of Chopin."
