First published in 1850-75, these fantasies for amateur violinists (1 to 3 pos) were reissued by Schott, ed Pollitzer, and Litolff, ed Sitt, Benjamin, ed Seybold, and Fischer, ed Saenger, among others, in the 1890 to 1914 period.
This collection is only a selection from the 50 or more that were published.
Several other similar series were published in the 19th century, for example Revue musicale, Op.305 (Küffner, Joseph), Der junge Opernfreund, Op.61 (Jansa, Leopold), and Potpourris (Hofmann, Richard). Similar collections of operatic overtures were also published for ex Ouvertüren-Album (Nowotny, Karl)
