Extra Information The difference between the editions with 40 etudes and those with 42 etudes is in the addition of numbers 13 or 14 (depending on the edition) and 25. The first 12 etudes are the same for all editions.

The year 1796 is commonly, but mistakenly given as year of first publication; perhaps because Kreutzer published two smaller sets of studies (containing 6 and 12 pieces, respectively) in that year. The 1805 publication of this set is indeed the first edition.
