Neue Gesamtausgabe, Band II. II. Fassung 1877, (pp.1-153) Vienna: Musikwissenschaftlicher Verlag, 1965. URTEXT EDITION This "urtext" or "scholarly" (scientific) edition is in the public domain because it was published at least 25 years ago for most of the EU (20 years ago in Italy, 30 years ago in Poland) over 25 years ago for the former USSR. Such editions are also public domain in Canada because they fail to meet the minimum 'threshold of originality' to qualify for copyright as an 'adaptation'. They may not be public domain elsewhere. More information about this can be found here. Please obey the copyright laws of your country. IMSLP does not assume any sort of legal responsibility or liability for the consequences of downloading files that are not in the public domain in your country.

Editor's preface removed for copyright reasons. The Nowak edition still contains residues of the Haas' "mixed version". Knowing that he had not dealt fully with the problems of the Haas' edition, Nowak asked William Carragan to prepare a new edition. Carragan issued a critical edition of the 1877 version in 2007.

Double bass may replace cello. Schmalnauer's arrangement is PD-US due to the failure to register the work with the U.S. Copyright Office and failure to file an NIE. Score bears a "scarecrow" copyright notice of 1952. In the USA this work is most likely in the public domain because it was published without a compliant copyright notice or no renewal was found after a thorough search of the Catalog of Copyright Entries and it was apparently ineligible for "restoration" under GATT/TRIPS.
