Commentary on the movements
- [Chorale]1: Allein zu dir, Herr Jesu Christ. A typical opening movement for a chorale cantata by Bach—The sopranos sing the chorale tune unadorned above a free imitative texture in the voices and independent instrumental material.
- Recitativo (Bass): Mein Gott und Richter. Secco recitative.
- Aria (Alto): Wie furchstam wankten meine Schritte. Muted first violins and pizzicato strings accompany the alto in unusual rhythms and daring harmonies.
- Recitativo (Tenor): Mein Gott, verwirf mich nicht. Secco recitative.
- Aria (Duet, Tenor, Bass): Gott, der du die Liebe heißt. Characterized by sweet parallel thirds and sixths, an aria making great use of the two oboes.
- Choral: Ehr sei Gott in dem höchsten Thron. A plain chorale.
