Misc. Comments
For the first Sunday after Epiphany.
This Cantata is in the form of a dialogue between the soul (Soprano) and Jesus (Bass).
Commentary on the movements
- Aria (Soprano): Liebster Jesu, mein Verlange. The "most significant movement"1 in this cantata. The obbligato oboe and soprano share the thematic material, an expressive, highly ornamented melody.
- Recitativo (Bass): Was ists, daß du mich gesuchet? Secco recitative.
- Aria (Bass): Hier in meines Vaters Stätte. Obbligato violin weaves a scintillating quasi-virtuoso fabric around Jesus's words of comfort.
- Recitativo (Soprano, Bass): Ach! heiliger und großer Gott. A string-accompanied recitative, the first movement to explore the dialogue.
- Aria Duetto (Soprano, Bass): Nun verschwinden alle Plagen. A musical expression of joy.
- Choral: Mein Gott, öffne mir die Pforten. A plain chorale setting.
