For the 14th Sunday after Trinity.
Section Listing
- [Chorus]1: Es ist nichts Gesundes an meinem Leibe. This is by far the most carefully constructed of the movements. It is in the Phrygian mode, in double counterpoint, with the choral superimposed on the vocal texture in four parts, an impressive effect. e minor.
- Recitativo (Tenor): Die ganze Welt ist nur ein Hospital. Secco recitative, notable for no melismatic writing. d minor.
- Aria (bass): Ach, wo hol ich Armer Rat? A continuo aria. The "ostinato-like ritornello motive, repeated throughout in various modified forms, strikingly illustrates the helplessness described in the text."1d minor.
- Recitativo (Soprano): O Jesu, lieber Meister. Secco recitative, mostly syllabicly declaimed again. a minor-C Major
- Aria (Soprano): Öffne meinen schlechten Liedern. Three recorders are used as an echo effect against the strings. This is a much less severe movement than the preceding, and is a wonderful contrast. C Major
- Choral: Ich will alle meine Tage. A standard 4-part setting of the chorale melody "Freue dich sehr, o meine Seele. "C Major
