Misc. Comments
For the Second Sunday after Epiphany.
Section Listing
- Aria (Tenor): Meine Seufzer, meine Tränen. The timbre of the oboe da caccia is prominent in this da cap aria, due to the fact that Bach, while starting the theme in the recorders, often brings the alto instrument to the fore. (D minor)
- Recitative (Alto): Mein liebster Gott lässt mich annoch. Recitative secco; standard except for a melisma on the word "flehen." (B♭ major)
- Chorale (Alto): Der Gott, der mir hat versprochen. The woodwind simply double the melody, while the strings have exuberant figuration surrounding the melody. (F major)
- Recitative (Soprano): Mein Kummer nimmet zu. "Plain but exceptionally graphic in text illustration" (1) (F major)
- Aria (Bass): Ächzen und erbärmlich Weinen. Harsh diminished intervals are plentiful in this vivid aria. However, the passages in quick sixteenth notes provide quite a contrast. (G minor)
- Chorale (Chorus): So sei nun, Seele, deine. A standard 4-part setting with all instruments doubling (B♭ Major)
