Misc. Comments
For the 14th Sunday after Trinity.
Commentary on the movements
- Chorus: Jesu, der du meine Seele. An expressively chromatic passacaglia with many episodes of free counterpoint. The soprano, above this, sings the chorale tune unadorned.
- Aria (Soprano, Alto): Wir eilen mit schwachen, doch emsigen Schritten. A deliciously contrasting and vivacious duet.
- Recitativo (Tenor): Ach! ich bin ein Kind der Sünden. Secco recitative.
- Aria (Tenor): Das Blut, so meine Schuld durchstreicht. An aria with obbligato flute at its most characteristic. This movement is distinctive thanks to its rising scale patterns and frequent leaps.
- Recitativo (Bass): Die Wunden, Nägel, Kron und Grab. Recitative with string accompaniments.
- Aria (Bass): Nur du wirst mein Gewissen stillen. A dance-like movement characterized by a flowing oboe line interupted by initial chords alla francese.
- Chorale: Herr, ich glaube, hilf mir Schwachen. A plain chorale setting.
