Misc. Comments
Although Bach says that this could be used in ogni tempo (any point in the Church year), it is originally for the 15th Sunday after Trinity.
Commentary on the movements
- [Aria]: Jauchzet Gott in allen landen! The famous opening aria with virtuoso parts for trumpet and soprano, including notes up to high C in the soprano. A Concerto-grosso type movement with Soprano, Trumpet, and occasionally violin (mostly as an echo or imitative effect) as the soloists.
- Recitativo: Wir beten zu dem Tempel an. The recitative begins as a standard recitative with string accompaniment, but changes to an arioso section at the end.
- Aria: Höchster mache deine Güte. A continuo aria with a highly exposed soprano solo line over a bassline utilizing a repeating phrase.
- Chorale: Sei Lob und Preis mit Ehren. Basically the final movement. The Soprano sings the chorale melody plain while the strings play a trio sonata-type movement around it.
- [Finale]: Alleluja! A closing Fugue as a coda.
