Misc. Comments
For Whit Monday.
Commentary on the movements
- Choral: Also hat Gott die Welt geliebt. Bach here modifies the chorale tune in a "remarkably expressive manner, with the result that...it hardy seems like a chorale any more."1. Despite the somewhat forbidding key, this movement still retains enough leavening to remain buoyant.
- Aria (Soprano): Mein gläubiges Herze. A very well-known aria, adopted from BWV 208/xiii. The violoncello piccolo now takes the ostinato.
- Recitativo (Bass): Ich bin mit Petro nicht vermessen. Secco recitative.
- Aria (Bass): Du bist geboren mir zugute. Also from BWV 208, this movement takes full advantage of the pastoral sonority of its trio of double-reeds.
- Chorus: Wer an ihn gläubet, der wird nicht gerichtet. A colla parte motet-style movement, mainly composed as fugue.
