Commentary on the movements

n.b. Each verse begins with "Was Gott tut, das ist wohlgetan", thus the incipits are actually the second lines.

Versus 1. Chorale: Es bleibt gerecht sein Wille. An expanded version of BWV 99/i.
Versus 2. Duetto (Alto, Tenor): Er wird mich nicht betrügen. A continuo duet resplendent in imitation.
Versus 3. Aria (Soprano): Er wird mich wohl bedenken. The flute has a fast, virtuosic solo part. The 6/8 meter of the movement gives it a dance-like feel.
Versus 4. Aria (Bass): Er ist mein Licht, mein Leben. A "cheerful major key, dance-like syncopations...characterize this particularly accessible aria."1
Versus 5. Aria (Alto): Muß ich den Kelch gleich schmecken. The obbligato oboe tries to capture the "bitterness" of the text, but the lilting 12/8 ends up making the dance come to the fore.
Versus 6. Chorale: Darbei will ich verbleiben. See BWV 75/vii (also xiv).
