For the Ninth Sunday after Trinity.
Section Listing
- Chorus: Herr, gehe nicht ins Gericht. A slow, expressive adagio opens the cantata; the voices quickly overleave themselves over the introductory sinfonia. The second section is comprised of a choral fugue. g minor
- Recitative (Alto): Mein Gott, verwirf ich nicht. Secco recitative. c minor-B♭ Major
- Aria (Soprano): Wie zittern und wanken, Die Sünder Gedanken. "One of Bach's most original and impressive arias."1 Notable for its bassetto (no continuo) scoring, and constant repeated notes, this beautiful aria illustrates the text in a brilliant fashion. E♭ Major
- Recitative (Bass): Wohl aber dem, der seinen Bürgen weiß. Recitative with string accompaniment. B♭ Major-E♭ Major.
- Aria (Tenor): Kann ich nur Jesum mir zum Freunde machen. Horn and concertante violin bring the cantata back down to earth from the first aria with a dance-like tenor aria. B♭ Major
- Chorus: Nun, ich weiss, du wirst mir stillen. The chorale is in the soprano "embedded" in the orchestra's continuously shifting accompaniment. g minor
